If you are still on the fence, please consider Karen's Home Fellowship experience:
"To say I love home fellowships is an understatement. Home fellowships enable me to better live out God’s two greatest commandments: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength; and love your neighbor as yourself. Luke 10:27
I attended my first home fellowship last summer. At the time, I wasn’t committed to God and I wasn’t committed to church, but, for some reason, I made a commitment with myself to complete at least one home fellowship series at Calvary.
When I started the home fellowship I was very disappointed with God and even church in general. During the break up of my marriage while living in North Carolina, I had become quite embittered. As a single mother of three having just moved, I could not seem to make connections with people at the new churches I visited, and I added this to my growing list of grievances.
But as I began attending the home fellowship it wasn’t long before I realized that this group was authentic and real – facing various challenges and disappointments like me but with the support of one another and with faith in God. There were opportunities to share spiritual struggles, victories in Christ, offer guidance and lift one another up in prayer. It was a safe place and about two thirds through, it became apparent to me that as a result of my many years of disappointment and anger, there was now very little love in my heart. Sometime during that seven-week period I confessed to God that I did not love him. It was then that I asked God to woo me back to him and fill my heart with his love. He miraculously and graciously answered my prayer.
When that summer home fellowship finished, I couldn’t wait for the next one to begin. God used this group to continue to grow my love for him and his people. I can honestly say that I truly love and care for the people in my group. I love their unique personalities and especially their hearts and souls. And talk about connecting: In this home fellowship, I met Reb and Nikki Harbin, who had just moved to Connecticut from North Carolina and who both ride Harleys as do I! How awesome is that? The bonds formed are so meaningful that our group has continued to find excuses to get together even through this last home fellowship hiatus. We have experienced some truly fun times and developed wonderful friendships.
Bill’s sermons are great and I’m a big fan. But honestly, it is home fellowships that connect us, engage us and put us to the test. Home fellowships are the proving ground for the world just beyond. They help to transform us from being hearers of the Word to doers. They place us within a tiny community of people who become awesome cheerleaders, encouraging us onto spiritual victory and Christ-like love for an oftentimes ruthless world.
If you haven’t already signed up for a home fellowship, I urge you to do so today! If you are new to the church and don’t feel connected, a home fellowship is without a doubt the answer!" -Karen Butler
